MARRIAGE FORM
To be married in church you need to show a “close connection” to the church you want to be married in. If you live in Burford then you already have a close connection. If you aren't resident in the parish (and haven't been at any point in the past), you can establish a connection by attending services here for 6 months. We have services every Sunday – you can find out more details on our website www.burfordchurch.org. You don't need to attend every week, but you do need to come at least once a month for a minimum of 6 months in order to establish the qualifying connection. The sooner you start attending the better, really, so you can be sure of establishing the close connection you need.
Once you have met the attendance criteria, we are then able to publish your banns, which is a legal requirement for marrying in church. Banns are published 3 weeks in a row within the 3 months prior to your wedding day. So you would need to start attending services once a month around 8-9 months prior to your wedding date.
form Please be aware we wish you a lifetime of love that grows within God’s protection. Therefore, we advise a divorced person may only remarry in one of our Churches in exceptional circumstances. Please inform us if you have been married before.
Further information about marrying in a Church of England church, including a sample order of service and a guide to the fees (which are set by law), is available at https://www.churchofengland.org/life-events/your-church-wedding/just-engaged.
