WHY DOES BURFORD CHURCH EXIST?
WHAT WE ARE ABOUT
WE ARE TO GROW IN CHRIST
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you , you will bear much fruit ; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15 v 5
We Are to Love his People
A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
John 13 vs 34-35
We want to reach Burford and Beyond
The Lord added to their number daily
Acts 2 v 47
HOw we do this
Our core foundations are based on Acts 2 vs 42-47
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved..
The Church is to be a LEARNING Church: Devoted to the Apostles Teaching
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3 vs 16-17
We value good teaching from the Bible in small groups and in our preaching. Yet the teaching is not an end in itself, we want to learn so that we are transformed by the teaching. We are committed to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Church is to be a WORSHIPPING Church: Devoted to Prayer, to Communion and to Praise
In view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship- Romans 12v1
As a church we value worship. It is how we respond as God’s people to his glory. Yet worship is more than just an activity we do on Sunday. Romans 12 tells us our response is to give our whole selves. So we express our devotion in song and prayer, and we do so with a wholehearted dependence on God – recognising that all we are and all we have is from him.
The Church is to be a LOVING Church: Devoted to Fellowship, to each others needs, to sharing meals
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
1 John 3v16
Our model of love is Jesus Christ himself – who in love willingly gave up his very life. Our care for one another should be seen in sacrificial love by spending time together, using our energy and resources for other’s good. Equally, one expression of love is trusting others with our vulnerability.
The Church is to be an EVANGELISING Church: the Lord adding to their number
Go and make disciples of all nations.
Matthew 28v19
We are aware of Gods grace to us in calling us to be his children and are committed to seeing his Kingdom grow as people from Burford and Beyond put their faith in him. We want to seek the good of the communities that God has placed us in, and always be mindful of how we can speak the invitation to others to be children of God.
